LU develops board game “Grow” to assist in education of students for future career challenges

Jaime Shone Domestic Engagement Manager Student Services & Marketing at Lincoln University, in conjunction with Upper South Island Client Council of Rabobank and St Paul’s Collegiate, have recently developed a board game “Grow” to assist in education of students for future career challenges .

This model will educate students about careers, challenges and rewards of working in the food and fibre sector and will be used as an interactive revision tool. The content has been written based on the NCEA Level 1 Agriculture and Horticulture curriculum (with an aim to increase this to Level 2 and 3 as they are updated by NZQA).

based on a previous game produced by the AgITO in 2008, “Grow” includes mātauranga Māori content, questions about animals, soils, plants and farm management as well as penalties and rewards related to environmental, social and economic decisions the players make during the game.

“Grow” is due to be officially launched at the National Fieldays in Hamilton in November. Copies of the game will then be donated to agriculture and horticulture schools throughout the country.
